Home-row anchors
On US QWERTY, the left hand begins on A S D F and the right on J K L semicolon. Raised marks on F and J help the index fingers return without sight.
Key zones
Each finger generally owns a vertical or diagonal zone. Index fingers cover extra central columns, while pinkies handle more modifiers and punctuation.
Shift and Space
Use the opposite hand's Shift key when practical so the letter hand can move freely. Either thumb may press Space; consistency matters more than a universal rule.
Alternative layouts
Dvorak, Colemak, AZERTY, and QWERTZ change character locations, but the physical key zones remain tied to position. Select the matching map during practice.
